Is there anything that says Fall more than the smell of cinnamon? Whether it's a pumpkin spice latte or a slice of apple pie fresh from the oven or even a cinnamon broom at the grocery store, I start getting excited for fall when I smell that spicy aroma!
This year I decided to do something a little different and make a cinnamon garland. Most people think of this as a Christmas garland, but I'm going to make mine fall-themed! It was super easy and only has 3 items that you probably already have on hand. It's a great craft for kids too if you need something to keep the little ones occupied for a few hours! Just mix the dough, cut it out into cute shapes, let it dry, decorate as desired, and then string it together. You'll end up with a super cute decoration that smells amazing. (Just don't try to eat it!)
Ingredients:
3/4 cup (6 oz) of applesauce
a 4 oz container (about a cup) of cinnamon
2 Tablespoons of white liquid glue (such as Elmer's)

Instructions:
Mix the applesauce, cinnamon and glue until well combined. If the dough is too thick, you can add more applesauce a Tablespoon at a time as needed to form a soft dough.
Roll out the dough until it's as thick as you want. I made mine about 3/8 of an inch thick. I found it easier to roll it out between 2 sheets of parchment paper. Cut into your desired shapes using cookie cutters, and use a straw, pencil or piping tip to cut a hole in the top of the ornament for the ribbon. (Don't wait till they're dry because they'll be too hard to make the hole)
Carefully place the ornaments on a parchment-lined baking sheet (don't skip the parchment paper like I did the first time - they will stick to the cookie sheet and break when you try to remove them!). Next, you need to dry the ornaments. You can put them in a 200° F (95° C) oven for 1½ to 2 hours, or if you're not in a hurry, you can let them air dry for 3 to 4 days., flipping them once per day.
Once they are completely dry, decorate as desired and then insert a ribbon or twine through the hole for hanging. They should last indefinitely! You can also store them in a bowl like potpourri to make your whole house smell nice!
As always, tag me if you try this so I can see all your wonderful creations!
xoxo,
Melissa
