One of the bedrooms upstairs is used as Kyle's studio. This is where he edits videos, games, and where both of us hang out for movie nights! It has been pretty much a blank slate since we moved his office in there a few years ago (before that it was my music studio until we moved that downstairs). It has a nice rug, and curtains, and Kyle built his desk a few years ago but that's about it!
We partnered with Leo Main to try out their new line of Walnut TriVeneer wall panels. You can watch that reel here! This blog post is not part of that collaboration but I wanted to share it here and explain the process.
How We Installed the Panelling
Wall paneling is a really high-impact DIY that you can do in a range of budget and difficulty levels. For the cheapest but most difficult, you can buy solid walnut (or your preferred type of wood) boards, cut them all down to size, and install using a nail gun.
For a more expensive but easier option, you can use premade panels like the ones I used from Leo Main. The panels are 1x8 which was the perfect height for my walls. They have a felt backing (made from recycled water bottles!) that you can screw directly into the wall with drywall screws. The website details 2 other ways of installing, but this was the way we chose and it worked like a dream!
I did buy some black screws and since you're screwing it through the gap in the wood slats, they're pretty much invisible! There were a couple places on the wall that didn't have studs to screw the panels into so we went right into the drywall. The panels are very lightweight and the screws were enough to secure them so we are not worried about them falling!
But I'm not done yet. I'm envisioning some art or possibly a neon sign on this wall too! Let me know in the comments what you think you'd add!
xoxo,
Melissa
